The Ontario government has once again postponed the province-wide property assessment update, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Assessments are typically done every four years.
What this means is that property taxes for the 2022 and 2023 taxation years will continue to be based on the 2016 valuation.
Chatham-Kent has seen a large increase in home prices, but a rise in the value of a home does not necessarily mean a particular homeowner will pay more in property tax, as tax bills also depend on how much values increased or decreased in other parts of a municipality and in homes located in your neighbourhood.
