If you’ve set up pre-authorized payments for your property taxes, you may want to check your mail.
The Municipality has fixed an issue where nearly 9000 Chatham-Kent residents were sent two notices instead of one – each with a different amount.
Manager of Revenue Amy McLellan says this year’s 1.96% increase wasn’t factored in on the first bill.
“It was discovered that the initial pre-authorized payment notices were generated with the incorrect amounts due to a file generation error,” McLellan explains. “Upon discovering the error, corrected notices were generated and mailed immediately.”
McLellan says the problem has been fixed, only one withdrawal will be made today, and there’s no need for ratepayers to take any action.
However, if you have any concerns, you can check with your bank.
