Eliminating a couple of staff positions at the Civic Centre has helped lower Chatham-Kent’s proposed tax increase for the year ahead.

During budget deliberations last night, council agreed to cut an HR director position, an executive assistant for corporate services, and reduced the amount requested for extra legal staff.

A few items were added to the budget as well – $100,000 from reserves for physician recruitment and retention, and a reallocation of Entegrus dividends for the Community Partnership Fund.

Heading into next week’s deliberations, the proposed tax hike now sits at 2.32%, down from 2.47 the night before.

Council will be back at it Tuesday evening at the Civic Centre, starting at 6pm.
