A 20-year City of London plan will ultimately benefit Chatham-Kent.
When London gets hit with a storm, its century old combined storm and sanitary sewers flood, spewing raw sewage into the river.
That all makes its way down river through Chatham-Kent, and out into the lake.
The plan is to separate the storm and sanitary sewers which will reduce phosphorus levels in the Thames.
That in turn should help reduce algae blooms in Lake Erie.
The plan isn’t cheap and comes with come a cost of 285-million dollars
