The provincial government has announced reductions to hydro rates in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Premier Doug Ford made the official statement in Tuesday’s briefing alongside Energy Minister Greg Rickford.
The province will charge the off-peak/weekend price for time of use billing for the next 45 days with more people staying home.
No action is required from customers. The rate change begins immediately and also applies to small business and agriculture.
This reduced price will be available 24/7 to all time-of-use customers, who make up the majority of electricity consumers in the province. The province says the fixed off-peak rate will see rate reductions of over 50 per cent compared to on-peak rates.
The move is expected to save the average family about $20 a month.
