Province Giving C-K $2.2 Million

Chatham-Kent-Leamington MPP Rick Nicholls has announced a financial injection from the provincial government to Chatham-Kent.

Nicholls says the province is providing the Municipality with $2.214 million to help “protect the health and safety of the province’s most vulnerable people”.

This funding is intended for municipalities and social service providers including homeless shelters, food banks, emergency services, charities and non-profits in order to support the delivery of critical services, the hiring of additional staff, acquiring more personal protective equipment, and to find ways to promote social distancing and self-isolation.

“I appreciate how quickly the Ministry is responding to the needs of these communities. During this critical time of dealing with COVID 19, it is imperative that those identified as most vulnerable have the support they so desperately need”, said MPP Nicholls.

Departments responsible for homelessness and the vulnerable in the Municipalities will determine how this funding is distributed locally to provide people in the community with the support they need.

“We are providing an additional $148 million to local service managers and Indigenous program administrators all across Ontario to give them flexibility to expand the key services they already offer to meet their local needs for such things as emergency loans for people having a hard time paying rent. It is up to communities to respond to local needs”.

Windsor and Essex County, including Leamington, is receiving  $3.704 million.
