Provincial programs that provide free snacks and meals to kids in schools are getting a significant boost from the Ontario government.
The province’s Student Nutrition Program and the First Nations Student Nutrition Program will receive an additional $5 million in funding. This brings the total provincial funding for the programs to $38 million for this year.
The government is also launching a fundraising campaign with organizations, such as the Breakfast Club of Canada and the Grocery Foundation, to raise an additional $5 million for the two programs.
The nutrition programs provide more than 600,000 school-aged children and youth with healthy meals and snacks throughout the school year to ensure they are well-nourished and ready to learn.
