The Ontario government has reached a tentative agreement with the union representing teachers at French language schools across the province.

Minister of Education Stephen Lecce announced the deal with the Association des enseignantes et des enseignants franco-ontariens (AEFO) on Thursday, which will ensure there will be no job action in all elementary and secondary schools in the 12 publicly funded French-language school boards for the next three years.

“This deal provides stability for families across the province and helps students in Ontario schools look forward to a full, in-class, uninterrupted learning experience that emphasizes life and job skills,” said Lecce in a news release.

The AEFO represents around 8,200 elementary and secondary teachers at French-language school boards in Ontario.

The Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association is now the only major teachers’ union without a collective agreement, and Lecce is urging the union to sign a deal that puts students first.
