The Ontario government is taking an active role in tracking cases of COVID-19 in Chatham-Kent.
The municipality announced on Tuesday that following instructions from the Ontario government, a central provincial workforce will now investigate all new cases of COVID-19 and provide appropriate instructions for both cases and contacts.
The provincial workforce will send text messages and follow up with phone calls when reaching out to those who may be affected by the virus.
Chatham-Kent Public Health will continue to focus on cases and contacts related to the highest-risk settings, such as schools, retirement homes, long-term care homes and acute healthcare settings.
The municipality said the change will allow the local Public Health agency to focus on vaccination within Chatham-Kent, in an effort to reduce the strain on the local healthcare system.
