Lambton College students enrolled in programs related to the video-gaming industry may now be eligible for additional financial assistance, thanks to a recent investment from the provincial government.
A total of $50,000 will be provided to Lambton College over the next two years through the Ontario eSports Scholarship, which was launched earlier this year by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities.
“It’s great to see the provincial government recognize the growing demand for professionals in the gaming industry and put funding in place to help our students pursue careers related to esports,” said Program Coordinator Matthew Hutchinson. “As the esports industry continues to expand, it brings with it an increased demand for entrepreneurial-minded young people who aren’t just passionate about playing games, but who are also skilled in the strategy, marketing, and business development aspects of this burgeoning sector.”
Scholarships of between $2,500 to $5,000 will be up for grabs for students in Lambton College’s Esports Entrepreneurship and Administration program who recorded a GPA of 3.0 or higher in their fall semester. To qualify, students will also have to demonstrate financial need and complete an essay.
The scholarships will be awarded by March 31. To learn more, click here.
