Ontario’s Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development is hoping to get more local students involved in the skilled trades.
Monte McNaughton has announced funding for more than 380 students in Lambton College’s six in-class training programs, including its newly accredited construction boilermaker apprenticeship program.
More than 926-thousand dollars will cover training programs for welders, general carpenters, construction boilermakers, and steamfitters, among others.
According to the 2018 Ontario Auditor General’s Annual Report, over the next five years, Ontario will require 1,000 boilermakers to refurbish the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station and Bruce Nuclear Generating Station, two of the biggest infrastructure projects in Canada.
