New provincial funding is being divided between the two hospitals within the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.
On Friday, the government announced $1 million in Health and Infrastructure Renewal Funding for CKHA.
CKHA CFO Aaron Ryan says the funding covers more asbestos removal at the Wallaceburg site in preparation for renovations to ambulatory care.
“This particular piece of the project, this isn’t the whole renewal of the Wallaceburg site, this is one area where we’re building new clinical space, reusing some older space,” Ryan says. “We’re on track to have that done before the end of this calendar year.”
The HIRF funding also covers roof renovations.
Meantime, CKHA has also been given $900,000 through an exceptional circumstance grant to pay for a new air conditioning system at the Chatham hospital.
