A provincial grant is helping local conservation officials detect potential flooding along the St. Clair region watershed.

The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority has received $25,500 in funding through the Ontario government’s Community Emergency Preparedness Grant program to purchase 10 to 15 water level sensors and two precipitation gauges.

The new sensors will be placed strategically at locations that experience frequent road closures due to flooding and other key areas to support flood monitoring. The new sensors will also complement the conservation authority’s 12 existing monitoring stations.

According to the conservation authority, the addition of this equipment will improve early detection of potential flooding so information can be communicated to affected municipalities as soon as possible.
