New mobile health care services are coming the Chatham-Kent as part of a provincial investment in primary care providers.

The Ontario government is investing nearly $6.4 million in seven new and expanded inter-professional primary care initiatives in Chatham-Kent, Lambton County and the London area.

The province said the initiatives will help connect over 23,000 Ontarians to primary care teams, which connect people to a range of health professionals who work together under one roof, including doctors, nurse practitioners, registered and practical nurses, physiotherapists, social workers and dietitians, among others.

As part of the investment, new mobile primary care services will be established in Chatham-Kent, including clinics for respiratory and diabetes management and cancer screening, as well as traditional healers to help provide culturally appropriate care.

Further details about the new care services have not been released, including a possible timeline for implementation.

The funding earmarked for the local region is part of a $110 million provincial investment that was announced by the government back in February, in an effort to close the gap for those not connected to primary care.
