Chatham-Kent is looking to create more public art.
At tonight’s council meeting, council will look to approve a public art policy, as well as putting money into the municipality’s public art reserve through a surplus and increased funding.
Council is being asked to approve a supplementary budget allocation of $50,000 over the next two years for the public art program.
There are many arguments for increasing public art in Chatham-Kent. According to a report to council, among the reasons for investing in public art is that it encourages outdoor exploration and contributes to a healthy lifestyle. As well, public art provides opportunities to participate and engage in the community and connect with other residents.
