Public Elementary Teachers Hit The Picket Line

Public elementary teachers hit the picket lines today as talks between their union and the government continue.

The two sides met at the bargaining table for the first time since mid-December yesterday, and both have agreed to continue negotiations today.

In the meantime, a series of rotating one-day strikes continue, including today’s walk-out affecting the Lambton Kent District School Board.

All local elementary schools are closed, although high schools and all schools under the St Clair Catholic and French boards remain open.

If a deal can’t be reached, the strikes will continue next week, potentially affecting local public elementary schools on Tuesday and as part of a province-wide strike next Thursday.

Meantime, plans are still on track for the province’s English Catholic teachers to hold a one-day strike next Tuesday.
