Public Housing Concerns in Ridgetown

Ridgetown residents are concerned with what the Municipality might do with an old public housing unit. welcome-banner

A new public housing structure is being built beside it on Cecil Street and Council voted to sell the old building rather than demolish it.

Nearby residents are concerned that having two buildings will cause traffic and safety issues.

Councillor David Van Damme says the building could be sold to anyone, and there’s not much more the residents can do.

“The people who live on Cecil Street can’t do anything more,” Van Damme says. “We prepared and we met and we organized and got the message out in a manner I thought was clear and concise.”

According to the Municipality, it is likely the building will be turned into student housing.
