Hydro One is turning to the public as plans for a new transmission line in the area move forward to meet the region’s growing demand for energy.
The utility is in the midst of an environmental assessment for two new single-circuit 500 kilovolt transmission lines from the Longwood Transformer Station in the Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc to the Lakeshore Transformer Station in Lakeshore.
A series of public meetings are being held over the next few weeks, starting at the Brunner Community Centre in Thamesville tonight.
Other sessions are taking place in Glencoe, Mount Brydges, and Comber. The final public meeting will take place in Chatham on March 30th at the Active Lifestyle Centre.
Officials say engagement with Indigenous communities and other members of the public, businesses stakeholder groups, government agencies and other interested parties will help select preferred routes that consider the needs and interests of the region.
Once the environmental assessment is done, the project will still need approval from the Ontario Energy board to move forward.
