Another wind farm is looking to set up shop in Chatham-Kent.

Capstone Infrastructure Corporation is hoping to develop and construct the Crossfield Wind Farm, a proposed wind generation facility of up to 200 MW, consisting of 25 to 30 total turbines.

The project area stretches from just east of Chatham to past Highgate, with the bulk of the wind farm north of the 401.

The Ontario government has identified a need for more energy and capacity to supply the province with enough power into the 2030s and beyond. While a few companies have been looking at Chatham-Kent for potential project opportunities, including wind, solar, battery, and natural gas, municipal officials say due diligence must be done.

Any companies that wish to move forward with projects will need a support resolution from Chatham-Kent Council before the submission deadline for the request for proposal process. CK officials say they have advised potential developers that they will eventually need to present their proposed projects directly to Council and that Council will ultimately decide whether it wants to support their project or not.

In a written statement, Capstone officials say their project is still in the initial early stages, and they are seeking to engage with the community before submitting a proposal to Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator.

A pair of public meetings are being held at Willow Ridge Golf and Country Club in Blenheim on Thursday, June 26 from 1-4pm and 6-8pm.
