A new piece of public art is coming to the town of Dresden.
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has announced that Mayor Darrin Canniff and the Mall and Grail families will collaborate to install a mural at 348 St. George St. The building was formally a women’s clothing store.
“Public art plays a significant role in enhancing community aesthetics, fostering cultural expression, and creating vibrant spaces for residents and visitors alike to enjoy,” said Mayor Canniff in a news release.
While the subject matter has not yet been announced, the municipality said the mural “will serve as a symbol of cultural expression and community pride, reflecting the unique identity and spirit of Dresden.”
The project will be financed through the mayor’s share of the Hydro One Community Benefit program, which is designated for recreational and art projects.
The municipality has not released any information on potential artists for the project or a timeline for when the mural will be installed.
