Chatham-Kent residents will likely notice an increase in their next water bill.

The Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission (PUC) approved yearly increases for water and wastewater usage in the municipality during a meeting on Thursday.

Water consumption will increase by $5.42 per month on average for residential service, for those utilizing 17 cubic metres of water per month. As well, wastewater consumption will increase by $5.49 per month.

Rate increases are used to cover the treatment and delivery costs of water and wastewater, as well as providing sufficient funding for PUC operations, maintenance, lifecycle and debt financing costs.

According to the most recent projections, that combined water/wastewater bill for local residents will increase by around $112 each year until 2034.
