popcornCanada and the US will be joined temporarily this weekend by the longest string of popcorn in the world.

The event Pumpkins Popcorn and Politics takes place this weekend in marine City, and Gary Kohs, one of the event organizers, explains the Guinness Record they’re trying to beat:

“We’ve got Canada across from us, so it’s going to be the longest string of popcorn connecting two countries. It’s going to be a mile long string of popcorn and we’re going to have the Mayor of Marine City holding one end at 4:00 this Sunday, and we’re attaching it to a Canadian Zodiac Hurricane boat that goes very fast, with the idea that we can keep the popcorn off the water long enough to get it to the Mayor of St. Clair” – Gary Kohs

They’re also trying to carve 1200 pumpkins at the same time this afternoon to beat the current record holder of just over one thousand.
