Thanks to a collaborative effort between volunteers, businesses and the municipality, a well-used bird nest installation in Wallaceburg has been repaired.
The long-standing Purple Martin bird house at Crothers Park Trail was found toppled on March 14, following a night of strong winds.
A restoration effort to fully restore the structure and raise it back into position has since been undertaken by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, Schepens Ltd., Alric, and community volunteers.
“This outcome reflects what is possible when community, skilled trades, volunteers, and municipal teams work together with a shared purpose. The response ensured not only restoration, but resilience for future seasons,” said Sherri-Anne Wills, a spokesperson for NatureCK, in a news release.
The bird house, which has supported a thriving Purple Martin colony for around 10 years, saw immediate use after its repair on April 17. A Purple Martin scout was seen investigating and moving into the structure that same day.
