Chatham-Kent’s Chief Financial Officer will be urging council tonight to push upper levels governments for more funding.
CFO Gord Quinton believes that Chatham-Kent is not prepared to pay for infrastructure repair or replacement alongside future developments based on the current funding method.
He is urging council to request more funding from both upper levels of government to avoid having property tax go towards things that used to be funded primarily by the provincial or federal governments.
Quinton writes in his report that because the Ontario Municipal Budgets are now funding these levels of social service assets, many municipalities have been facing a 5 to 15 per cent property tax increase since 2020.
Council had previously voiced their concerns about this back in 2022 and 2024.
