After months of construction, work on the new Queens Line roundabout is wrapping up and will fully reopen his week.
Work on the comprehensive infrastructure upgrade to Queen’s Line and Merlin Road intersection began in March and included construction of a single-lane roundabout, road safety improvements, and rehabilitation of the Queen’s Line Bridge just west of the intersection.
“The contractor, Huron Construction, did an excellent job staging the construction,” said Marissa Mascaro Amyotte, CK’s director of Engineering Services. “While the contract allowed for a full closure of the intersection during construction, they successfully staged the work to maintain traffic flow along Queen’s Line throughout the duration of the project to keep traffic moving.”
The roundabout will open to traffic on Friday.
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent said the intersection upgrade was completed within its $6 million budget and was funded through a combination of municipal reserves.
Municipal officials are currently working on a design for landscaping and an art installation for the centre island of the roundabout. Work on the centre island is expected to be completed next spring.
