Conservation officials will be keeping close tabs on local waterways with as much as 15 to 20 millimetres of rain possible in some areas today.
According to the St Clair Conservation Authority, water levels across the region are already elevated and more rain into tonight could cause some flooding in low-lying areas, parks, and farm fields.
Areas where the ground is saturated could see ponding, increased runoff, and the potential for increased erosion and seepage issues.
High amounts of rainfall in a short period of time can lead to increased runoff and flash flooding, particularly in urban areas. A watershed conditions statement says residents in these areas may experience ponding and/or flooding on roads should the rainfall intensity be greater than local storm drain capacity. Residents near waterways may experience water levels rising quickly as a result of high intensity rainfall.
Residents are reminded to avoid shorelines, watercourses and flooded areas due to dangerous conditions, slippery banks and cold, swift moving water. Children and pets should be kept away from the water.
