Rain Rain, Go Away

After a dark and stormy night, local conservation officials continue to keep tabs on local waterways.

Officials with the St Clair Region Conservation Authority say some areas may have received as much as 50 mm of rain overnight, increasing the risk for flash flooding and ponding on roads.

While no significant flooding is expected, water levels may have risen into natural floodplain areas, farm fields, and parks.

Meantime the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority issued a flood outlook, with officials saying while the watershed has been unusually dry over the last few months and the ground able to absorb a fair bit of rain, some smaller watercourses could rise and spill their banks.

Staff are prepared to operate the McGregor Creek Diversion Channel if necessary to prevent flooding in urbanized areas.

Residents are urged to stay away from waterways with slippery banks and cold, fast moving water.
