A wet, but successful day for the Children’s Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent.

The second annual Run for the Kids was held at Rondeau Provincial Park on Sunday with roughly 300 people of all ages taking part.

Foundation President Mike Genge was overwhelmed by the support.

“I honestly never thought this would happen. The first year when we made $80,000, I thought that’s absolutely incredible because the average run makes 15-20 grand. Today, we made $117,000, we’re up $37,000 over last year.”

Handy Brothers Climate Care was the top team fundraiser, raising close to $19,000.

Andre Cleroux, who sits on the Foundation’s Board of Directors, says the event is a team effort.

“We have a great amount of volunteers, donating their time, making sure everything is going to be perfect. It’s absolutely going to be a great turnout and without these volunteers, none of this would be possible.”

Funds raised support services at the Children’s Treatment Centre that are not covered by government funding, including social work, therapeutic recreation services, and music therapy.
