WALLACEBURG, ON NAMED SECOND STOP ON KRAFT CELEBRATION TOUR

Toronto, ON – After more than one million total online votes were cast for Tuesday’s head-to-head match-up, Wallaceburg, Ontario has been named the second winning community in the Kraft Celebration Tour.

As part of the Kraft Celebration Tour, Wallaceburg hosts a special edition of SPORTSCENTRE featuring anchors Darren Dutchyshen and Kate Beirness when they broadcast live from the Southwestern Ontario community on Saturday, Aug. 20 at 6 p.m. ET.

Wallaceburg also receives a $25,000 community award from Kraft Canada that goes towards turning an old tennis court into an outdoor lacrosse floor.

A picturesque community on the banks of the Sydenham River, Wallaceburg – the hometown of Pittsburgh Steelers’ kicker Shaun Suisham – was first settled in 1804 by Scottish immigrants and now boasts a population of 11,000. Lacrosse reigns supreme in Wallaceburg, where the local sports hall of fame proudly showcases the town’s longtime success at the sport.

Wallaceburg joins Armstrong, BC, as one of the 10 winning communities in the Kraft Celebration Tour. Wallaceburg was named to the tour after winning a national head-to-head vote over Trenton, ON.
Canadians can decide the other winning communities for the Kraft Celebration Tour over the next two weeks. One pair of communities is featured per weekday through July 22, and Canadians can visit KraftCelebrationTour.ca or Tourneedecelebrationkraft.ca to vote for their favourite Kraft Celebration Tour nominations. Voting is unlimited and runs from 12 noon ET each weekday for a 24-hour period.

During the voting period, SPORTSCENTRE on TSN and SPORTS 30 on RDS highlight the day’s featured match-up with a look at the duelling communities and their proposed community improvement projects. Results of each vote will be announced the following weekday on SPORTSCENTRE and SPORTS 30.

The other communities selected as finalists for the Kraft Celebration Tour, along with their match-ups and scheduled voting dates, are as follows:

• Thursday, July 14: Pembroke, ON vs. Mattawa, ON

• Tuesday, July 19: Estevan, SK vs. Swan River, MB
• Wednesday, July 20: Shippagan, NB vs. Sackville, NB
• Thursday. July 21: Arborg, MB vs. MacGregor, MB
• Friday, July 22: Ingonish Beach, NS vs. Port Hood, NS

Lacrosse has always been Wallaceburg’s game and given the challenges the WMLA faced earlier this year no one…and I mean no one was more deserving.
