With a court date fast approaching, local residents continue to push back against plans to reopen a dormant landfill near Dresden.
A rally is being held to protest York1 Environmental Waste Solutions and its plans for a waste transfer and processing facility at the Irish School Road site.
The advocacy group Dresden CARED (Dresden Citizens Against Reckless Environmental Disposal) is inviting residents to meet at the intersection of St. George Street and Main Street at noon on Saturday, bring signs, and voice their opposition to the proposal.
York1’s plan has been met with significant opposition from local residents since it was made public in early 2024.
Officials with the Municipality of Chatham-Kent maintain that York1 requires land use planning approvals from CK Council, including zoning and official plan changes, to move forward with its proposals.
The company filed a court challenge in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, with the next hearing on the matter scheduled for September 21.
