Incumbent Mayor Randy Hope says he’s not done yet.
Hope will be seeking his fourth term as mayor of Chatham-Kent, and says he has some unfinished business.
“Number one, we’ve been able to our financial house in order, moving debt from $163 million to $86.4 million, there’s things we need to do in our communities,” Hope says. “We’re making upgrades to the Wallaceburg Arena, that’ll happen this year, there’s more infrastructure we need to do with other arenas.”
Hope says while he would like to see a brand new sports complex in Chatham-Kent, it needs to be in partnership with the federal and provincial governments.
“We need to look at bypasses, getting the heavy trucks out of the downtown area, opening up industrial areas in Wallaceburg,” Hope says. “Some things are on the right track, now that we’ve got population starting to grow, assessments starting to grow, financial house in order, now we can start to focus on making sure we continually move forward.”
Hope’s priorities moving forward include redevelopment in both Wallaceburg in Chatham, and revitalizing industrial land in Ridgetown and Tilbury.
