The province is providing COVID take-home test for publicly funded schools across the province.
The rapid tests had already been sent to some schools as part of a pilot project. If a student develops a COVID-19 symptom or is identified as a close contact of a positive case, they can get a test at their school, take it at home, and drop it off at a community location for processing.
One step the government will not be taking is adding COVID to the list of mandatory vaccinations students must have to attend school. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Kieran Moore says instead they’ll keep an eye on trends and the ongoing threat the virus poses to school-aged children.
Students in Ontario already have to get shots for diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, and polio.
