Chatham-Kent police were kept busy with numerous violent crime investigations in 2022.

According to information released by the Chatham-Kent Police Service, the Major Crimes unit investigated a total of four homicides last year, which was one more than the year prior. However, the number of attempted homicide investigations decreased from 10 to three.

CK police saw nine aggravated assaults in 2022, a 90 per cent increase from 2021. However, there was a 77 per cent decrease in sexual assaults with 74 incidents recorded last year.

The number of abductions doubled in 2022 from seven to 14 reported incidents that included parental abductions, human trafficking and forcible confinement.

Reported robberies also saw a 33 per cent reduction from 42 to 28, and weapon offences also decreased by 47 per cent from 69 to 37 reported incidents.
