MP Peter Fragiskatos was in Chatham yesterday to announce $2.48 million in federal funding for Dajcor Aluminum, and says it’s all about new technology, innovation, and creativity.

“Manufacturing is vital to southwestern Ontario, vital specifically to Chatham-Kent, but manufacturing looks different it’s about innovation,” Fragiskatos says. “Innovation is about taking existing knowledge and applying it differently, and when we do that we get growth, we get increased productivity, from that comes jobs, and from that comes prosperity for the workers and their families.”

The London North Centre MP says it’s all about making the most of highly technical skills.

“We need our young people to be encouraged to go into this kind of a sector because when they do, they’ll find they’re really taking the idea of creativity forward,” he says. “We’re talking about science, technology, engineering and maths being put to use.”

Canada’s manufacturing sector is responsible for 10% of the country’s gross domestic product, with 1.7 million people employed in the industry.
