One of Chatham-Kent’s most recognizable farmers – at least by his voice – has passed away.

John Jordan, known by many for his broadcasting of Farm Market News on 99.1 CKXS as well as radio stations across Chatham-Kent and beyond, passed away on Friday, November 24th.

Jordan earned a diploma in Agricultural Tech from the Ridgetown Agricultural College, now the University of Guelph. He began his broadcasting career with the CBC in 1970 and launched a successful agricultural public relations firm, doing freelance writing for the farm press across Canada.

He worked for the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food, the Ontario Soybean Marketing Board, Ontario Corn Producers, and helped develop technology to translate agricultural data into interactive reports for the next generation of tech-savvy farmers.

Jordan retired in 2005 and was inducted into the Chatham-Kent Agriculture Hall of Fame in 2017.
