Dozens of people are set to take to the streets of downtown Wallaceburg this week to honour the survivors of residential schools and the children who never made it home.
Through a partnership between Walpole Island Employment and Training and the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, the fourth annual Healing Walk and Gathering will be held on Tuesday as part of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
The walk will start at 10:30 a.m. at the Wallaceburg Library and move down James Street before ending at Civic Square Park. Beginning at 11 a.m., participants will gather at the park to listen to survivors and their family members, who will share their experiences of how residential schools have impacted their lives.
James Street will be closed to traffic during the healing walk, and the road is expected to reopen around noon.
