Residents in Wallaceburg are very concerned about yesterday’s removal of the 4-way stop at Murray and Reaume.
Three XS listeners called in about an accident that happened at the intersection hours after the stop signs on Murray were taken out.
According to witnesses, a van, a truck, and a car were involved in the accident. Police and EMS were on the scene shortly after the accident around 3:30pm.
One listener who chose to be unnamed says she isn’t surprised that an accident happened so quickly.
“My husband and I have said a number of times that it’s not going to take long [for an accident to happen]. Thankfully it wasn’t more severe. This took three hours [since the stop signs were removed] for our first accident. It could have been someone on a bicycle, a motorcycle – it could have been a lot worse”, she says.
She called the Municipality’s Engineering department shortly after the accident.
“I expressed my concerns about what kind of signage there should be out here to let people know on Murray Street that you have to keep going. A lot of people are still stopping thinking it’s still a 4-way, but they really just need to keep going. So there’s a lot of congestion, confusion, and high rates of speed going down Murray Street”, she says.
All three listeners who called in about the accident are concerned about what will happen on Tuesday when students go back to school.
