Due to ongoing hot and dry weather, the Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission is imposing lawn watering restrictions across the municipality.

The restriction will apply to all customers utilizing municipal water, both residential and commercial.

“With the extended hot dry weather that this region has been experiencing, lawn watering has placed extra demands on all of our water treatment plants,” said PUC General Manager Tim Sunderland, in a news release. “This is the first step in the restrictions. CK PUC may need to implement further restrictions if the water plants do not see any relief.”

Beginning on Friday, customers with odd-numbered addresses will only be allowed to water their lawns on odd-numbered days, while those with even-numbered addresses will be allowed to water their lawns on even-numbered days.

There will be a two-month grace period for lawns that have been newly sodded.
