A property on Richmond Street in Chatham has been zoned for a medical marijuana facility.
While several other companies have applied for this same type of zoning in the past, just one has been able to apply for a building permit so far.
Councillor Steve Pinsonneault says the permit and licensing processes through Health Canada take time.
“You want to make sure all the I’s are dotted and T’s are crossed,” Pinsonneault says. “If you’re going to bring a facility of that nature in, you want to make sure it meets all the standards that it’s supposed to meet.”
While we may not see any medical marijuana facilities built in the near future, Pinsonneault says they will eventually bring much needed jobs to Chatham-Kent.
“You have to think outside the box, and this is the perfect example of doing that.”
