Area residents will have a chance to discuss the Ridge Landfill expansion tonight in Blenheim.

From 6-8:30 at St. Mary’s Hall, you’ll be able to learn more about the landfill, its history, and its future.

The open house is part of the environmental assessment process.

Currently the landfill collects 1.3-million tonnes of waste from residential, industrial, commercial, and institutional sources from across the province.

The proposal would see the annual tonnes per year remain the same.

The industrial, commercial and institutional waste area will be reduced to southern and central Ontario, and the residential waste service area will be reduced from southwestern Ontario to Chatham-Kent only.

The Ridge Landfill opened in the 1960s and will reach its capacity in 2021.

An expansion would add twenty years to that timeline.
