A costly reminder to check your furnace before turning it on for the season.

Chatham-Kent Fire crews were called to a home on O’Neill Line in Ridgetown just before 7:30 Thursday morning after a furnace caught on fire, with flames spreading quickly from the furnace room to the attic.

No one was hurt, but damage is pegged at $200,000.

Fire officials are asking all home owners to have any heating appliances serviced to ensure they’re working properly.
