Ridgetown Residents Asked to Reduce Power Usage

On one of the hottest days of the summer so far, officials with Chatham-Kent’s electricity company are asking residents to reduce their power consumption.

Entegrus is working to address an equipment failure that may affect as many as 800 residential customers in the community, and officials are asking residents to conserve electricity usage to help maintain system stability.

Officials say the one stations supplying Ridgetown was severely damaged by an animal contact and taken out of service. The utility is using a mobile unit substation to support the community’s power load while a replacement part is being made. Complete repair is scheduled for later this week.

Entegrus officials say some of the best ways to reduce electricity use is to avoid using pools, hot tubs, and spas between noon and 9pm; delay charging any electric vehicles until after 11pm; set thermostats 1-2 Celsius warmer, if medically safe; use microwaves, air fryers, or barbecues instead of an electric stove or oven to cook; and turn off lights, televisions, and other devices in unoccupied rooms.

Residents don’t need to worry about charging phones, tablets, or laptops as they use minimal power. Fans are also encouraged as a way to help keep comfortable without using much electricity.
