The allocation of government grant money at Riverview Gardens Long-Term Care Home is up for debate at Monday’s council meeting.

Council will vote on directing $813,700 received from the Ministry of Long-Term Care toward previously approved, completed projects at Riverview Gardens.

The funding was originally provided to help meet Ontario Fire Code requirements that came into effect at the start of 2025. Since Riverview Gardens is already meeting provincial standards, the long-term care home can instead use the funds for deferred maintenance costs, redevelopment projects, and the “Other Accommodation Level of Care,” which includes building operations and non-care supports such as housekeeping, maintenance, utilities, administration, furnishings, and non-food dietary costs.

If approved, the funding covers the already completed replacement of dining room chairs and adaptive dining tables, medical equipment, linen supplies, kitchen floor tiles, restoration of a cooling tower, and replacement of a Wanderguard Management System. The remaining $95,347 will be used for 2026 lifecycle projects.
