In an effort to have a presence throughout all communities across Chatham-Kent, the municipality will host two council meetings outside of Chatham a year.

One councillor that was opposed to the idea was Doug Sulman, and he says it’s more about what a council meeting is.

“The feedback that you get when you read the report is that the public wanted town hall meetings so they have an opportunity to speak about the issues in their community,” Sulman says. “That’s not what council meetings are set to do. They follow a certain agenda and you can’t jerry-rig them so they’re about the one community that you go to.”

A pilot effort to host a council meeting was held in Tilbury last month. Most comments from attendees were positive and there was good attendance.
