Robotics Team Redefines Girl Power

Girl power is taking on a whole new meaning with the Build-A-Dream Amazon Warriors FIRST Robotics team.

Madison Vickery is the only Chatham member of the Windsor-based team, heading for the world championships.

The Amazon Warriors is the first team in Canada with an all-female team, coached only by women mentors.

Vickery says she’s already using her experience to inspire others.

“I’ve actually started a all girls junior-level league team,” she explains. ” We have a group of six amazing six-year-old girls who are really interested in the STEM field and who really want to show what they can do.”

Vickery says she’s exited for the world robotics championships, being held in Detroit this week, but they could still use some help.

“We need money to be able to get there and be able to start our team next year,” she says.

The cost to get the team to the world’s is around $5000.
