A new title for a couple of area MPs.
Lambton-Kent-Middlesex Conservative Lianne Rood has been named Shadow Minister for Agriculture and Agri-Food as part of the new Conservative Shadow Cabinet announced by the new Leader Erin O’Toole.
“I am honoured to serve as Shadow Minister for Agriculture and Agri-Food for the Official Opposition,” Rood says. “I look forward to continue working with members of the Canadian agriculture and agri-food sector.”
Rood served as the Deputy Shadow Minister for Agriculture and Agri-Food from December 2019 to September 2020.
“The past several months have been difficult for all of Canada and the agriculture industry is no different. Agriculture is vital to this country and our food security has to be a top priority.”
Coming from an agriculture background and an agriculturally rich riding, Rood says she’s ready to use her experience and work with her Conservative colleagues to hold the Liberal government to account.
Meantime, Sarnia-Lambton MP Marilyn Gladu has also been named to the Privy Council, given the position of Shadow Minister for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario.)
“I am eager to take on the task of advocating for our local economy and protecting our hardworking industry,” Gladu wrote on Twitter, “and really looking forward to working with this strong team to show that we are the government in waiting.”
