The municipality is spending nearly $150,000 on designs for the proposed Round the River Recreation Trail in Chatham.
The trail, which would travel along Riverview Line and Grande River Line, would be more than 20 kilometers long.
With actual construction costs estimated to be in the millions, Councillor Steve Pinsonneault isn’t impressed.
“I’m against the whole project,” the East Kent Councillor says. “The small part of it within the city of Chatham is fine, however when you’re going out and around, I think it’s $5 million that we can spend on better infrastructure projects elsewhere.”
Though the designs have been purchased, no commitment to the construction of the trail has been made.
