Authorities want to ensure everyone is playing it safe when heading out on the water.
This is Safe Boating Week in Ontario, and the OPP has a few reminders for boat operators and passengers: ensure all of the proper safety equipment is on board, be wary of the dangers of cold water, and always wear a lifejacket or personal floatation device.
Authorities say boating fatalities on OPP-patrolled waters reached an eight-year high in 2017 with 31 people dying last year compared to 23 deaths in 2016.
