Salt Shortage Not Affecting Chatham-Kent

A harsh start to the year for residents across Chatham-Kent, especially on the roads with multiple winter storms and accumulating snow and ice.

Plow and salt truck operators have been hard at work across Chatham-Kent, cleaning up after the latest storm, which brought at least 15 cm of snow to many areas.

Several southern Ontario communities, including London, have been relying more on sand to treat area roads, due to a province-wide salt shortage.

However, that is not the case in Chatham-Kent. Eric Labadie, Manager of Corporate Communications says rumours that municipal public works yards have run out of salt are unfounded.

“We’re currently in a good place with our salt levels and have been working with our contractor to ensure a good supply is maintained throughout the course of the winter season,” Labadie said in an email to CKXS News.
