2016 Salvation Army luncheon. This year’s event was limited to take-out due to COVID restrictions.

The Salvation Army has been given a big boost, thanks to the annual Childs’ Family Christmas luncheon.

It was a different atmosphere this year with no sit-down meal, but even with all the COVID restrictions and challenges, the fundraiser brought in over $12,555. That’s up from just over $7200 raised in 2019.

In a post on social media, organizer Mark Childs thanked all of the volunteers and supporters who made the event such a success.

“Thank you to our volunteers, Ron Ameloot, Leon Roegiest, Dave Morrison, Julie and Kevin O’Conner. Thank you to our staff for working their butts off today, while keeping the smiles going. Thank you to GFS, Mortons Wholesale, Sysco, Kent Sanitation (Brian Wadsworth) and Maple City Bakery for your generous donations. We have had many requests from our donators to remain anonymous so we will not print everyone’s name, but know that we truly appreciate, each and every donation. We do want to recognize Greg Aarssen who matched donations at 99.1 and to 99.1 themselves for help raising roughly $3000.00 that was put toward our total.”

First Baptist Church will get just over $3100 for the Christmas Eve pantry, and the remainder of funds raised will support the Wallaceburg Salvation Army.
